Complementary and Alternative Therapies: Herbs, Supplements, and Nutrition

This course provides an introduction to therapies currently used as complements to Western medicine. Emphasis is on naturopathic medicine and biologically based therapies such as foods, special diets, herbal remedies, and dietary supplements. The course reviews potential risks and interactions between conventional and complementary and alternative therapies. The course examines agencies devoted to informing and protecting consumers and health care practitioners. Prerequisites: BIOL 101 or BIOL 151, CHEM 111, and instructor's permission if a non-nursing major
