This course includes intensive instruction in reading and language arts methods that is grounded in methodically sound research. Exposure to well-designed instructional programs enables students to examine a comprehensive, systematic program of instruction that is aligned with the state-adopted academic content standards for students in English Language Arts and the Reading/Language Arts Framework, and includes explicit and meaningfully applied instruction in reading, writing, and related language skills and strategies. The study of secondary reading and language arts methods includes effective strategies and methods for guiding and developing the content-based reading and writing abilities of all students including student with varied reading levels and language backgrounds.
