How many units are in this program?
The program requires 36 post-baccalaureate units.

How many units do I take each semester?
Half-time students take at three to six units every nine-week term. Most candidates are working adults and do not take classes full time. Academic advising is highly recommended to determine the course load required.

How long is a semester?
All courses are offered in accelerated nine-week semester terms in fall and spring. For summer, the term is six weeks.

How many hours does each class session require?
Classes meet for approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes, once a week.

How many evenings per week do I attend classes?
Students attend one evening per week for each enrolled course.

How many students will there be in my classes?
This varies depending on the campus and the particular class, but the average class size in this program ranges from 12-15 students.

Does APU require theses, dissertations, or capstone projects?
No, this program does not require a thesis, dissertation, or capstone project. However, a research project is required in the final course.

What is the description of the average student in the APU program?
The student body in this program is about 65 percent female, 35 percent male. Most are older students who work while they attend school. The racial representation includes Caucasian, African American, Latino, and Asian students. Most, but not all, who attend APU describe themselves as Christians.

Are scholarships available?
Several types of financial aid are available to graduates. The sources include federal loans, state grants, and fellowships. For those who qualify, the California Student Aid Commission administers a loan program called the Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) designed to encourage outstanding students to become teachers and serve in critical teacher-shortage areas in California public elementary and secondary schools. Under the provisions of the APLE Program, the commission may assume up to $8,000 in outstanding educational loan balances. How soon can I finish this program?
This program can potentially be finished in one year. However, it can take longer; therefore, academic advising is highly recommended and especially helpful in determining what is suitable for the individual based on personal schedule and content of the current class.

What is the cost per unit?
Most graduate programs average about $510 per unit for the 2008-09 academic year. This varies depending upon the program, and other fees that may also apply. Current information may be obtained in Graduate Catalog under the Student Financial Services section.
