Overview

APU's Master of Science in Physical Education equips candidates with vital skills, enabling them to serve their students and districts professionally and comprehensively.

The program equips candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to instruct physical education, administrate athletic programs, and coach at the K–12, junior college, and four-year university levels. The goal of this academic program is to develop candidates’ awareness of the process involved in effecting a change in the lives of people whom they will serve in the years to come. This is achieved through the mastery of professional skills and knowledge and the integration of teaching, coaching, and administrative techniques and strategies.

Once earned, the master's degree positions the educator as a leader within the school and the district, with opportunities to develop and implement important physical education programs tailored to the 21^st-century student.

Program Highlights

• A blend of relevant coursework and practical training prepares students to be educational leaders in physical education.
• Small class sizes create a rich learning community as students progress through the program with 12–15 peers in each course.
• Graduates of the program are eligible for positions as K–12 teachers and coaches, athletic directors, sports managers, and fitness trainers.

School of Education Accreditation

Azusa Pacific University receives accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In addition, the School of Education receives accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), making APU one of only three private schools in California with this distinction. Further, our credential programs are accredited by California’s Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Our Master of Arts in Education: Educational Psychology Program is also accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). APU was also ranked No. 16 in the Up-and-Coming Schools Category by U.S.News.
