About the Program
Mission Statement
The Master of Science in Physical Education program at Azusa Pacific University comprises a Christian community of scholarly believers who seek to advance the work of God in schools of all levels by effectively training physical educators, coaches, athletic administrators, and exercise science professionals in knowledge and skills through academic excellence and a Christian perspective of truth and life.
Degree Uses
The Master of Science in Physical Education is intended to meet the needs of students who wish to prepare for admission to doctoral programs; enhance competencies in teaching, consulting, or program administration; and prepare for a variety of other physical or sport-related careers.
Our Students
The student body in this program is about 65 percent female, 35 percent male. Most are older students who work while they attend school. The racial representation includes Caucasian, African American, Latino, and Asian students. Most, but not all, who attend APU describe themselves as Christians.
Students enrolled in the program include:
- K–12 physical education teachers and coaches
- Athletic directors, sports managers, university/college coaches and educators
- Elementary teachers desiring to incorporate a strong physical education component into their curriculum
- Secondary teachers with an interest in teaching P.E. and coaching
- Entrepreneurs in the field of sports and fitness training
