Admission Requirements – Domestic Applicants
The university graduate and program admission requirements below must be met before an application is considered complete.
International students have a separate application procedure that precedes the standard admission process. View international requirements.
Applicants must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree
A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA
A minimum grade-point baccalaureate or master’s grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. (Provisional admittance may be granted to individuals who do not meet this criterion if competency can be shown.)
- A computer and online access
Access to an approved computer and Internet provider is required.
- Proficiency in online use
Applicants must submit:
- A Graduate Application for Admission (Apply Online | Download PDF)
- A $45 nonrefundable application fee
- Letter to the dean (Download PDF)
A typewritten letter to the dean describing educational goals as well as short- and long-term professional goals.
- A résumé or statement of experience (Download PDF)
Should include most relevant work and volunteer experience.
- Three letters of recommendation (Download PDF)
Submitted by professors or employers who have current knowledge of the applicant’s academic ability and potential.
- Official transcripts
Request that official transcripts be sent to APU's Graduate Center for all degrees, certificates, and credentials earned prior to application to APU. Learn more about APU's transcript policy.
- Proof of Certificate of Clearance
- Proof of Successful or Scheduled Completion of the CBEST
Provide official proof of successful passage of the CBEST, or proof of paid registration for the next CBEST.
Note: Candidates for the Teacher Librarian Services Credential Program must have met all requirements for a credential in California which includes subject-matter competency, CBEST, RICA, and any other requirements. The Master of Arts in Education: School Librarianship is a K–12 program and not ALA accredited.

What to Expect
After all admission materials have been received by the Graduate Center, the faculty or department chair reviews the applicant’s file. The student is notified in writing of the admission decision.
