Informational Meeting

Prospective students may attend an informational meeting to receive initial group advising prior to submitting an application. Check the School of Education's information meeting calendar for upcoming dates.

Admission Requirements – Domestic Applicants

The university graduate and program admission requirements below must be met before an application is considered complete.

International students have a separate application procedure that precedes the standard admission process. View international requirements below or contact the International Center at +1-626-812-3055 or by email.

  2. Use the following program code when applying: EDCO07
  3. A $45 nonrefundable application fee
  4. Official transcripts from all institutions leading to and awarding the applicant's baccalaureate degree (bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution) and all post-baccalaureate study (To be considered official, a transcript must be mailed directly from the Office of the Registrar of the institution attended to the Graduate and Professional Center at Azusa Pacific University. Students' sealed copies will not be considered official. Baccalaureate or master's degree grade-point average (GPA) should be at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Provisional admittance may be granted to individuals with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.9 if competency can be shown using multiple measures.)
  5. Three recommendation forms should be submitted by supervisors who have current knowledge of the applicant's academic ability and potential for service within the credential area. A professor, current supervisor, or previous supervisor may write the letter of recommendation. A letter of recommendation from a pastor, friend, or coworker will NOT be accepted.
  6. A five-page essay/autobiography describing personal and professional history
  7. Résumé, vita (preferred), or Statement of Experience, including most relevant work and volunteer experience
  8. Proof of Certificate of Clearance (Submit a photocopy of the most current Emergency Permit or Certificate of Clearance to the Graduate and Professional Center. [Fingerprint check required for CTC.] For more information, please contact the Credential Analyst at (626) 815-5346.)
  9. Successful completion of the CBEST (Proof of completion; test scores and/or CBEST card)

After all above materials have been received, by the Office of Graduate Admissions, the Department of School Counseling and Psychology reviews the file and returns it to the admission office with a final recommendation. A letter is then generated to the student regarding their admission status.

Admission Requirements—International Applicants

Azusa Pacific University is authorized under federal law by the U.S. CIS and the U.S. Department of State to enroll nonimmigrant, alien undergraduate and graduate students. APU issues and administers both the I-20 and DS 2019 (F-1 and J-1 status documents respectively).

To apply for a graduate program at APU, the following requirements must be fulfilled in addition to meeting the domestic applicant and program-specific admission requirements specified by the program.

What to Expect

After the International Center receives all admission materials, a committee of department faculty review the applicant’s file. The applicant is then notified of the committee’s decision.
