Profile
Ivy Yee-Sakamoto, Ph.D., is a faculty member in the teacher education department. Her primary interests are the preparation of teachers for linguistically and culturally diverse student populations, and social studies education. Her research focuses on teacher preparation, and in particular on the attitudes and perspectives of preservice teachers toward diversity. Her latest collaborative research explored the effect of partnerships and service learning on preservice teachers’ development of positive attitudes toward cultural pluralism, as well as their motivation to acquire best practices to serve diverse student populations. She is the Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (C.L.A.D.) Certificate program coordinator and the director of the Ryan Multiple-Subject Credential Program. In addition, she serves as a member of the Graduate Studies Council, the Curriculum Review Committee, the APU School-University Partnership Council, and the University Diversity Training Team. Yee-Sakamoto has consulted for local schools and coached and trained schools in the process of reform as an associate of the Center for Accelerated Schools at California State University, Los Angeles.
