Bringing 30 years of Christian higher education experience with her, Ruth Givens came to Azusa as an associate professor in 2006. During the first half of her academic career, she taught undergraduate composition classes and C.S. Lewis seminars for the English department at Oral Roberts University. In 1987, Ruth became the founding editor of a series of three literature/composition anthologies approaching literature and writing from a Christian worldview.

The latter half of Ruth’s career has been spent in departments of education at Wheaton College and Seattle Pacific University, where she directed the Master of Teaching Arts Program and developed curriculum to address the needs of a growing student population. Focusing her pedagogical skills on courses in educational philosophy and ethics at Azusa, she has taught the history, philosophy, and ethics course on the master’s level as well as the ethics course on the doctoral level.
