Dr. Suzanne Malia Kirkland is a Professor in the Graduate Physical Education Program at Azusa Pacific University (APU) in Azusa, Ca. Dr. Kirkland’s research interest includes the racial experiences of White/Black athletes, career transition of college athletes, stereotypes surrounding athleticism, academic achievement of college athletes, and the lived experience of her participants/students. She is an existentialist who values individual experience and the essence of perception. Dr. Kirkland encourages self-confidence, teamwork, and leadership with her students. In the last two years, she was awarded with the APU School of Education’s Excellence in Research Award twice and won the Dean’s Emerging Scholar and Dean’s Accomplished Scholar awards as well.
