Which credentials may be applied for online?

What email address should I use if I have more than one?

Be sure you are using an email address that is permanent. It could take several weeks for the process to be completed. You may want to use your APU email address (see next question).

I’ve heard that some email addresses are not receiving emails from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). How could this affect me?

AOL and some other servers are rejecting CCTC emails at this time. Your credential analyst will notify you on how to overcome this obstacle.

What is the fee for applying online?

The fee for the credential is $55 plus a $2 service fee for processing the credit or debit card. The total fee to be charged to your credit or debit card is $57.

What credit card may I use to pay for my credential?

Any credit or debit card that has a MasterCard or Visa logo may be used to pay for the credential.

How long will the process take?

It takes about 10 working days from the time that the credential analyst submits the application to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing until the credential is issued and mailed to the applicant.

How long will it take from the time I submit my request for application to APU until the credential analyst submits the application to California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC)?

It could take two to eight weeks for the credential analyst to submit the application to CCTC. All grades must be posted and requirements verified as having been met. Summer is the busiest time, so submissions could be delayed if the application numbers are high.

What is a C19 letter?

C19 is code for a “letter of issuance” or “letter of verification.” In the past, credential applicants received these letters from their universities when they were recommended for a credential. A C19 was used by school districts and county offices of education to verify that a credential application had been submitted to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for a particular candidate.

My district has told me that I need to submit a C19 letter to them to verify that I have applied for my credential. Can I still get one?

C19 letters are not issued for online credential applications. The process from application submission to granted credential only takes around 10 working days. The email informing you that the credential has been granted may be submitted to the district for verification.
