About

What You'll Learn

This CTC-approved add-on teaching authorization allows candidates with a mild/moderate credential the opportunity to add a highly marketable specialty to their credential. Candidates choose from an add-on teaching authorization in autism spectrum disorders or as a resource specialist. Teachers not previously authorized to work with students in these areas or capacities are authorized to do so upon completion of their authorization program.

Eligible candidates for the Added Authorization in Special Education are those with a current CTC-designated Education Specialist Credential, Mild/Moderate (before summer 2010).

Program Formats

The Added Authorization in Special Education can be completed on campus or online in just four to six months. The program consists of four courses, which candidates can attend one night a week at a campus near them, or online whenever it is most convenient for them.

Designed for the Working Professional

At APU, we understand the challenges of earning your degree while juggling work, family, and other commitments. Our programs are designed to make attending Azusa Pacific simple, so you can reach your educational goals.

Flexible Format

The dynamic online format of this program offers students the flexibility of taking courses when and where it works best for them. Students benefit from courses designed to maximize their interaction with other students and professors, creating a rich learning community. For many, the online format is the easiest, most convenient way to balance work, school, and family.

Convenient Schedule

The Online Added Authorization in Special Education offers students a sequenced course design designed to be completed through nine-week terms. Candidates take courses with the same peers throughout the program.

Time Commitment

While you do not need to be online during a specific timeframe, you should plan to be online 6–10 hours per week per unit to successfully complete assignments and participate in discussions.

All online programs include a two-week online orientation prior to the start of the first class. This offers you a chance to become familiar with the online format as you engage with helpful tutorials.

Graduate online programs follow APU's Graduate Academic Calendar with most courses offered in nine-week terms.

“Experience is a great teacher. APU professors are all teachers themselves and offer relevant practical techniques they have actually put into practice. They know that the most meaningful assignments are classroom-based projects immediately applicable in their student’s schools. By observing my professors and their approach to education, I am motivated and inspired to continually improve and become a lifelong learner.”
