About the Program
APU’s M.A.Ed. in Digital Teaching and Learning and Moderate/Severe Disabilities Education Specialist (K–12) Credential program combines teaching methods courses and practical classroom application, giving teachers a comprehensive approach to learning in the 21st-century special education classroom.
The program is offered in two distinct tracks to accommodate educators from various points of entry. The credential offers an Intern track for those with a full-time teaching contract; a Non-Intern track is for the non-contracted teacher. Students must see an advisor for proper placement in tracks with this credential program.
This dynamic program offers students the flexibility of earning their master’s degree and credential in a hybrid format, blending on-campus coursework with online classes to create a relevant learning experience. Upon completion of the combined program, graduates are highly marketable and eagerly recruited, holding both a credential and master’s degree, as well as the skills to integrate technology into special needs curriculum. Students who complete the Preliminary, Intern credential are granted five years during which they must enroll in a Professional Clear Credential program.
APU candidates prepare to work in schools as teachers and they must know and demonstrate the content, pedagogical and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn. Therefore, the School of Education assesses candidates from admission through recommendation of credentials in these credential standards. As a result, APU candidates are highly sought after because of fulfillment of these professional standards.
The combined program is not appropriate for an individual serving on an Emergency, Pre-Intern, or Intern Credential with an urgent need to complete a Preliminary Credential in one year. A combined program may require more than one academic year.
