About the Director

David P. Colachico
David P. Colachico is beginning his 5th year as director of APU’s Office of Faculty Development. Colachico’s previous experience at APU was as a professor in the Department of Teacher Education/Special Education Programs. Colachico earned his doctorate in the area of Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. He has extensive education and training in the field of Special Education as well as K-12 education, and has been an administrator with the Department of Education as well as an assistant superintendent for a small school district in Vermont. Colachico has taught in both public education and higher education for more than 30 years.

Colachico is the author of several books and articles including “Stress and Children with Disabilities,” a chapter in Children and Stress: Understanding and Helping (ACEI, 2001), a book written in reaction to the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11. He is currently conducting research in the area of collaborative teaching as well as effective program change.

Colachico has been actively conducting workshops at both state and national conferences which include some of the following topics:

“Meeting the Needs of the Student with ADD in the General Education Classroom;” “Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning;” “Creating a Community of Learners in an Online Environment;” and “Technology for Special Needs.”
