What types of financial aid and scholarships are available and how do I find out more information?
More than 82 percent of APU undergraduate students receive financial aid. The school offers scholarships for academics, athletics, music, drama, speech and forensics, science, siblings, and Christian workers' dependents. You can read more about these scholarships along with other financial aid details online at www.apu.edu/sfs/undergraduate/.
How can my student get around campus and town without a car?
For details about transportation services on campus, visit www.apu.edu/shuttle/.
Students who do not have a vehicle on campus may find it beneficial to obtain a student bus pass for the MTA/Foothill Transit system. Citrus College, immediately adjacent to the APU campus, offers Foothill Transit passes in their bookstore. These passes are available at the student discount rate of $17 per month. A student ID is required. At this time they are only able to accept cash towards the purchase of a ticket.
You may apply and receive a MTA/Foothill transit combination pass from Union Station in Los Angeles. The rate for that ticket is $36 per month. The number to call to receive more information is 1-800-COMMUTE (266-6883). This will put you in contact with the issuing parties.
You can also visit www.mta.net for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority website. This site includes a "MetroTripPlanner" (Metro Transit > Metro Trip Planner) that allows one to choose starting/ending points and times to find out what bus/rail lines need to be used, where, and how much they cost.
Who should I contact in case of a crisis situation such as an earthquake, fire, lockdown, etc.?
Parents and family should first call the Emergency Message Hotline at 1-888-451-5583 or the Department of Campus Safety at (626) 815-3898.
For detailed information about APU’s emergency preparedness, visit www.apu.edu/response/.
What career services are available to help my student?
Our on-campus Office of Career Services helps current students and alumni to find jobs, obtain interviews, write résumés, etc. This office also hosts two career fairs each spring to assist both students and employers. The Nursing Job Fair is targeted to all undergraduate- and graduate-level nursing students and alumni, and the Teacher Interview Day is targeted to credential, master’s, and doctoral School of Education students and alumni. You can read more about Career Services at www.apu.edu/careerservices/.
When is Family and Homecoming Weekend?
Homecoming (aka Family Weekend) will be held October 27-29, 2006. The Homecoming website will be updated with more comprehensive information about the events and schedule over the summer.
What methods for payment are available to students/parents?
Effective December 1, 2006, APU will offer online billing and payment services. Through online billing and payment, APU hopes to provide more convenient service to students and authorized payers. Electronic billing (e-bills) will become the primary means of providing student account statements to all Azusa Pacific University students; paper statements will no longer be printed and mailed. Students will receive an email at their university email address enabling them to review their statement and make payments via the Internet. Students also have the option to designate another party to view and pay student bills. This third party (a parent, spouse, relative, guardian, or employer) will need a one-time authorization, issued by the student via the payment website.
APU accepts cash, personal check, money order, cashier’s check, and traveler’s check by mail or in person. The university no longer accepts student account payments directly by credit card (tuition, housing, and meal plan fees). However, as a convenience to students and authorized payers, APU has contracted with a third party vendor, CASHNet, to accept MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit card payments online. A nonrefundable convenience fee of 2.75 percent will be assessed by the vendor to payers making payment by credit card.
For more information on online billing and payments, visit www.apu.edu/sfs/undergraduate/
cashnet/.
What are the requirements for homeschooled students
who want to attend APU?
Admission for home school students will be based on the completed application,
with stronger emphasis on the student's SAT or ACT scores.
Applicants who are homeschooled and do not have an official high school transcript to submit to the university with the Application for Undergraduate Admission are NOT required to take the General Education Development (GED) Test or the California High School Proficiency Examination.
If the student does not have access to an official transcript or does not subscribe to a transcript service, the student will be sent a transcript evaluation form to be completed by the primary teacher. The transcript evaluation and academic reference may be completed by a parent if that individual is the primary teacher.
What is the purpose of chapel? How can I learn more about it and the requirements of my student?
Chapel exists to point us to God alone, as we worship Him in spirit and truth. We seek to keep God first by:
- Encouraging an intimate, personal relationship with God (John 1:12, Luke 10:27, Philippians 3:8).
- Providing challenging, biblically based teaching intended to produce transformation through the power of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
- Complementing the work of the local church through creative communication on topics vital to college students (1 Corinthians 9:19-23).
- Providing a corporate experience to unify APU in Christ.
