About the Program

Global Learning Term (GLT) is a self-directed and full-immersion global program, one of two off-campus graduation requirements necessary to complete the Global Studies major. GLT features a variety of study and service projects that are completed in developing world contexts over a four-to-six-month term.

During GLT, most students will not be affiliated with a local university, involved in a group, or be accountable to an on-field program director. Instead, in the spirit of “self-directed learning,” students will travel to their destination site in pairs, live with local host families, serve in indigenous organizations, and orchestrate their own day-to-day activities.

GLT participants are expected to be highly self-motivated, culturally adaptive, and morally self-regulating given the challenges and demands of this cross-cultural academic experience.
