Housing
Students will be staying at the Pension Jeske in the center of the historical “old town” of Heidelberg. This is a prime location directly off the Market Square, near the Town Hall and the Church of the Holy Ghost (Heiliggeistkirche), and a short walk to the picturesque old bridge and the river Neckar. It is also very close to the famous castle. Most of the old town is a pedestrian zone and students will be able to walk or ride their bikes (provided by the program) to classes and take advantage of the many libraries, museums, cultural venues, etc. directly in the old town.
There is a laundry service and a laundromat located just blocks away from the pension where students can get laundry done at reasonable prices. Students are encouraged to bring a laundry bag.
Eating in Heidelberg
Students can eat at the University of Heidelberg cafeteria, known as Mensa. Students will be given a food allowance on a student debit card. Lunch is the main meal in Germany, but for lunch and dinner there is a variety of entrees typically available, and there is always a vegetarian option. Mensa is very competitively priced, compared to other places students might choose to eat, but students will have the option to take their food allowance and apply it elsewhere.
