Obtaining a Student Visa

Students do not need to obtain a visa prior to leaving the United States. Residence permits will be obtained once the students are in Germany. However, if a student wants to obtain a visa prior to leaving the U.S., they can visit the German Consulate in Los Angeles and apply in person. Students must bring their passports and a certified copy of their birth certificates with them to Germany. It is important that students do NOT bring their original birth certificates, but rather a certified copy, which generally can be obtained from the county of the students’ birth. Once students are in Germany, the program director will arrange for students to obtain a residence permit.
