The Kern Family Foundation has awarded the Department of Practical Theology a grant for the purpose of implementing a highly integrated endeavor to identify potential vocational ministry students, clarify their calling, and qualify their giftedness for vocational ministry. This involves identifying students who are “called” to ministry before they come to APU as well as identifying those who are already attending APU who sense God’s leading to vocational ministry. The Lead Pastor-Mentor will assist in all aspects of the with strong relational and mentoring skills, will be involved in this process with current APU students and with those not yet attending APU. This person reports to the Director of the Kern Center for Vocational Ministry

Examples of Duties

  1. Engage in intentional mentoring relationships with identified potential ministry candidates;
  2. Identify additional potential ministry candidates;
  3. Interact with potential APU students;
  4. Lead students through the KCVM’s Who’s Calling You? Curriculum;
  5. Participate in Faculty Staff Training Workshops;
  6. Provide leadership for Ministry Workshops with student follow-up;
  7. Participate in the annual department majors retreat and in the Pastors’ Lunches;
  8. Assist in identifying qualified Kern Scholarship recipients;
  9. Assist in overseeing the Pastor-Mentors;
  10. Be responsible for appropriate grant outcomes;
  11. Assist the Director in leading KCVM programs.

Education

Graduate professional ministry degree preferred

Experience

5-10 years professional church and/or parachurch ministry experience; experience with college youth; passion for and service in the local church

Skills

Strong relational and mentoring skills in various venues and formats; teaching, influencing gifts; self-starter; initiator of mentor relationships; management skills

Details

Part-time position. Salary will be determined based upon experience and qualifications.
