Office Assistant (Temporary)

Description

To act as receptionist/support staff for the High Desert Regional Center

Examples of Duties

  1. Answers the main education telephone and routes the phone calls to the proper department.
  2. Orders internal supplies for the school from Central Supplies, external office supplies from Office Max, and coffee supplies.
  3. Maintain neat/functional appearance in the copier/mail room, entrance area and keep supplies stocked.
  4. Maintain servicing of copy, fax and coffee machines.
  5. Sort and distribute mail twice daily and distribute all UPS deliveries. Assist Regional Center Faculty.
  6. Data entry student files as needed
  7. Other duties as assigned by the Dean

Education

High School Diploma required, AA degree preferred

Experience

Some secretarial experience

Skills

Type 50-55 wpm with accuracy, PC word processing, database and spread sheet skills; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with correct English usage; able to communicate effectively with the public, students, faculty and staff; genuine commitment to serving students.

Mental Demands

Self-starter. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Physical Demands

Requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time. Repetitive hand motions for operating computer mouse and keyboard. Able to drive automobile and to attend meetings at other University locations. Hearing and speaking on the telephone. Ability to lift, pull, bend, and grasp; occasionally to lift up to 20 lbs.; reach top of five drawer file cabinet; safety climb short ladder.

Visual Demands

Computer monitor, reading. Vision correctable to 20/20.

Pleasant office setting, air conditioned
