Description

The PeopleSoft Security Administrator is responsible for gathering requirements, designing, building, testing, and maintaining the security environment to support PeopleSoft applications. The administrator will develop and implement PeopleSoft application information systems security plans and procedures, perform security reviews and access audits, recommend security solutions, advise on application-level security configurations, provide security education for end users, and investigate and mitigate security risks as required. The PeopleSoft Security Administrator is responsible for all aspects of managing and monitoring access to PeopleSoft resources, including pages, processes, queries, trees, reports, components, services, integrations, customizations, and tools. The position is to work closely with other teams to improve efficiencies in the security request and fulfillment process. The PeopleSoft Security Administrator maintains security in all environments in support of development, testing, staging, and production.

Examples of Duties

  • Oversee the PeopleSoft account administration process, ensuring that account creations, modifications, and deletions occur in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate roles, permission lists, and row level security exists for all functional areas of the University.
  • Work with stakeholders, customers, and IMT technical resources to design, implement, and maintain security structures for delivered and customized PeopleSoft applications.
  • Provide PeopleSoft security training where needed.
  • Routinely audit security in all PeopleSoft environments, ensuring that all users are appropriately provisioned for their work function.
  • Maintain and migrate security across multiple databases in support of database refresh activities.
  • Analyzes and resolves security and access problems related both to delivered and customized PeopleSoft applications.
  • Write and maintain documentation related to security design, implementation, and practices.
  • Acts as top tier support for critically escalated PeopleSoft issues related to security.
  • Assist with rationalizing the cost of exposure/prevention vs. response/recovery to prioritize areas for security investment.

Education

A degree in computer science or a related computer discipline preferred.

Experience

Three years practical experience administering PeopleSoft security preferred. Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in:

a. Requirements gathering and analysis
b. PeopleSoft security design, implementation, and maintenance
c. Production environment support & troubleshooting (related to security)

If not had direct PeopleSoft experience, mastery of Systems/Data/Network security in other enterprise environments must be demonstrated.

General experience with security audit, compliance, prevention and procedures preferred with knowledge of how security relates to the following technologies:

• Windows, Linux/UNIX server platforms
• Windows, Mac and mobile client platforms
• Identity, Security and Access Management concerns (LDAP Directories, Web SSO, SAML etc.)
• Enterprise resource planning systems (PeopleSoft preferred)
• Relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, or PostgreSQL etc.)
• Service Oriented Architecture, Web Services, and other modern software design patterns
• Software as a Service (SaaS) / Cloud Computing
• Internet protocols, open standards, and surrounding network technologies
• Messaging and collaboration systems
• Disaster recovery, business continuity planning

Skills

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
• The PeopleSoft Security Administrator must communicate appropriately with IMT’s customers and external suppliers.
• The PeopleSoft Security Administrator must work closely with other IMT staff to assist them with project management, budgets and strategic plans.
• The PeopleSoft Security Administrator must work with team members in a co-operative and trusting manner.
• This person must also be able to communicate complex technical details in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical staff. These details may take the form of written and oral communications.


PROBLEM SOLVING and INITIATIVE
• The PeopleSoft Security Administrator must collaborate with IMT customers, IMT staff and external customers on a regular basis to solve problems. The ability to absorb a large amount of information, quickly evaluate the nature of the problem and to provide a solution rapidly and decisively is essential.
• The problems encountered vary greatly and may require the ability to work as part of a team to find a resolution. Solutions may involve the arranging of tasks to be done or conducting negotiations with IMT’s customers until satisfaction is provided.


LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE
This person must have a high level of independence, show a high level of initiative, have the ability to make decisions and be highly motivated. This must be done in a manner which is consistent with the team management structure that is employed by IMT.


INFLUENCE OF RESULTS
This person must recognise that many of the systems developed and maintained by IMT are mission critical to the university. The proper management of the computer environment and technical resources will mean that IMT can provide efficient and productive IT systems and solutions to the organisation, resulting in greater productivity by university staff. This requires the person to be well organised and have an extremely high work ethic.

Physical Demands

Repetitive hand motions at computer key board. Sitting and/or standing 5-6 hours per day. Listening and speaking on the telephone. Ability to conduct business at other offices on campus. Able to reach, grasp, pull, bend, lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally.

Environment

OTHER REMARKS: • This position requires someone who is totally committed to excellence in customer service, and has a good understanding of APU’s overall business, business structures and business practices. • This position requires acceptance of APU’s Christian ethos as encapsulated in the Cornerstones. This person will be required to support and uphold the IMT Charter. • To enable the university’s critical systems to operate normally at all times, this person is required to be available by telephone for management, consultation and liaison with support, development and technical staff after normal working hours and on weekends. This may require considerable onsite presence to manage emergency situations.
