Developer/Data Analyst
School of Education
Description
This person is a member of the School of Education staff and is responsible for the department’s use of PeopleSoft delivered and custom applications that supplement the Campus Solutions student records system to track credentials, teacher placement, internships and other School of Education information.
Responsibilities include data analysis, report writing, requirements gathering, gaining priority and definition for future enhancements and coaching the use of the software for the School of Education. As this system is dependent on common enrollment management data, a working relationship will be required with Registrar and Enrollment Management Systems teams with the ability to translate between business, data, and technical resources.
This person is also a developer, able to enhance custom PeopleSoft applications through the use of PeopleTools. Though developing exclusively for School of Education needs, in order to learn APU development methodology and receive additional support this person will spend a percentage of time with the IMT Software & Service Development team and release code through approved processes.
Examples of Duties
- Support and maintain existing PeopleSoft School of Education applications through training and support to the School of Education faculty and staff
- Request modifications and enhancements to existing PeopleSoft applications through regular IMT Software & Service Development procedures
- Develop reports and enhancements to custom PeopleSoft applications to meet current and future needs of all departments in the School of Education according to prioritization of the Dean
- Perform data analysis, business process capture, and database design activities in conjunction the School of Education Data Manager, Enrollment Data Analysts, and IMT resources
- Assume short term leadership roles for working sessions, as necessary
- Collaborate with team members on joint projects especially bridging between Enrollment Management areas which share common interests and data
- Prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects
- Learn new technologies in support of business application needs
- Adhere to APU software development methodology by collaborating with the IMT Software & Service Development team
- Tailor communication content to peer, supervisory, executive, and customer audiences
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Liaison with Enrollment Management Systems and IMT to resolve service issues and concerns
- Coordinates testing of future enhancements and the impact of PeopleSoft upgrades on the School of Education
- Writes documentation for software customizations, and practices in the use and support of said software
Education
Bachelor's degree in Math, Engineering, Information Science or closely related field.
Experience
Required: Two years of relevant experience or the equivalent combination of four years combined relevant education and experience which must have included one year developing PeopleSoft applications, experience working with PeopleTools 8.4 and higher.
• Development experience in an Oracle Server environment preferred with strong use of structured query language and analysis tools.
Desired: Five years of relevant experience including three years developing PeopleSoft applications, experience working with PeopleTools 8.4 and higher
• MBA business degree
• Basic SQL certification or related training preferred
Skills
• Skill in and experienced with MS Office products: Word, Excel, Visio and PPT
• Must have experience with SQL and other database tools
• Experience with report writing tools such as PS Query, XML Publisher, or Crystal Reports.
• Skill in system analysis, business analysis, data modeling, and requirements development and in analyzing and solving complex problems
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in designing and implementing technical solutions
• Ability to analyze technical and functional aspects of a program and troubleshoot complex technical and functional issues.
• Ability to analyze code to find causes of errors and revises programs
• Ability to work successfully in a team environment and possess the flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements is required
• Ability to translate needs analysis results into functional designs and to develop and learn new technical skills quickly
• Ability to maintain harmonious work relationships with staff, students, faculty and University officials and the general public

• Ability to conduct business at other offices on campus. Able to lift, bend, grasp, pull, reach.
• Ability to lift up to 20lbs occasionally.
