Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support to the Regional Center faculty, staff and students at multiple regional campuses around southern California to ensure the effective use of computer and media equipment. Additionally, this position acts as a liaison between the Regional Centers and Information and Media Technology (IMT) support staff at the Azusa Campus.

Examples of Duties

  1. Sets-up, configures, and maintains both PC and Macintosh desktop and laptop computers and PDAs.
  2. Identifies and diagnoses computer hardware and software problems as indicated by Regional Center staff or the IMT Support Desk.
  3. Recommends solutions to hardware and software problems.
  4. Informs affected Regional Center staff of selected solutions, and with Regional Center staff agreement, executes selected solutions to resolve hardware and software problems.
  5. Documents solutions to common computer hardware problems.
  6. Repairs PC and Mac computer hardware at the component level.
  7. Schedules and performs, or supervises the performance of, preventative maintenance and repairs on computers and peripheral equipment at selected Regional Centers.
  8. Regularly updates the equipment inventory databases to ensure currency.
  9. Maintains currency on emerging trends in computer hardware and software.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent experience.

Experience

One - three years of system work with PC’s, Mac’s, and networks, and at least one year of using and maintaining PC laptops.

Skills

Ability to support and configure the following list of devices including, but not limited to modem, switch box, laser printers, ink jet printers, label printers, scanners, CD-ROM drives, CD-writers, DVD drives, USB, Parallel, Firewire, IDE and SCSI devices. Ability to work with multiple types of cables, telephones, tools and hand trucks. Knowledge of inside workings of Windows XP Professional, including, but not limited to, imaging, locking down OS, security, group policy. Knowledge of network and telecommunications equipment, including, but not limited to, network switches, bridges, routers, wireless access points, VOIP and PBXs. Knowledge of terminal emulation programs and utility/diagnostic software. Ability to use the web to find drivers, additional help for computer problems and familiar with using Internet search engines to quickly find desired results. Has some knowledge of Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP, DOS, Mac OS (9.x/OSX), TCP/IP, Ethernet, IPX, Microsoft Office suite, Internet Explorer, Netscape navigator/Communicator, Mozilla FireFox, Norton Anti-Virus and Utilities, DeepFreeze, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Norton Ghost.

Details

Full-time, 12-month position. Salary to be determined based on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits. Must be able to travel extensively between Regional Centers and Azusa campus.
