How do I submit an IMT work order?
With the IMT Work Order Request System, you can accomplish the following without requesting service directly from your support desk personnel: request a password reset, view your work order history, view multiple work orders, check the status on a work order, submit a new work order, and receive an auto-confirmation of a work order via your email. Your technology request will get priority over an email request during office hours. It is available 24/7. Please visit the IMT Work Order website.
What do I do if I don't want to reboot immediately when my computer freezes?
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete once. (Pressing it twice will immediately restart your computer.)
- A Close Program window will appear.
- Select the item that is not responding (usually denoted with a Not Responding status) and click End Task.
This will shut down the application or window that is frozen and may allow you to resume working. It is recommended that you immediately save all of your open documents and reboot.
How do I get additional computers for my office?
A request should be sent to IMT by the department chair or supervisor. Your request will be addressed as quickly as possible.
My computer is not working! Who should I call?
Please call the IMT Support Desk at Ext. 5050.
What do I do when a print job has started printing and I need to stop it?
When trying to stop a print job press the “Online” button on the printer, this will pause the print job and allow time to cancel it.
Who should I contact to buy toner cartridges for my printer?
Toner cartridges should be purchased from the APU Computer Store located on West Campus. Make sure to provide the correct printer make and model number. The APU Computer Store can be reached at Ext. 5096.
I want to access my email from home. What is my first step?
To access APU email from home:
- Obtain Internet access as you normally would (through dial-up or broadband).
- Open any standard web browser.
- Enter https://apumail.apu.edu in the location bar and press Enter or click Go.
- A security information window will appear that says something similar to the following: “You have requested a secure document. The document and any information you send back are encrypted for privacy while in transit.”
- Click Continue.
- You will be redirected to a Microsoft Office Web Access prompt; enter your email username and password.
How can I find out if an email that has been sent to me is a hoax?
A great site for researching possible hoaxes is the CIAC Internet Hoaxes site. This site lists which urban legends, hoax virus alerts, and chain letters are making the rounds.
Another site to consult is the Symantec AntiVirus Research Center.
If you are on the APU network, you can also access a series of posts in Microsoft Exchange. Go to All Public Folders > APU Public Folders > Email Hoaxes.
I’ve received offensive SPAM from an APU email address. What do I do?
Inappropriate or offensive SPAM is an unfortunate reality of email and Internet usage. In fact, it is even possible for you to receive offensive SPAM from familiar addresses, including ones that resemble an APU account and utilize common surnames. Spammers often use sophisticated spoof/virus-created emails that automatically generate random addresses. APU regrets these types of occurrences, but unfortunately, little recourse exists to curtail the activities of thousands of spammers across the globe.
Information and Media Technology (IMT) would like to assure you, however, that the chances of an inappropriate email being sent intentionally from an actual APU constituent are very slim. The university has specific email usage guidelines to which all students, faculty, and staff must adhere. In addition to the ability to monitor email communications for compliance with these policies, IMT uses the Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam software to help limit the amount of SPAM circulating through the APU system.
To help reduce SPAM in your email, IMT recommends you use SPAM filtering software, which most email programs already provide. Should you still receive an offensive or inappropriate SPAM email, do not open it in case it contains a virus. Simply delete it from your Inbox or Junk folder. Any kind of reply only confirms to a spammer that your account is active, which may prompt more unsolicited messages.
If you have any further questions or concerns about this matter, please contact the IMT Support Desk at Ext. 5050 or support@apu.edu.
Should I shut my computer off every night?
If you are using a publicly-accessible computer, you should go to Start > Shut Down > Log Off. This protects private information that is accessible through your account. The computers on campus have energy saver settings that allow them to use less power at night. However, at night and during off hours, IMT may perform maintenance on the network that could potentially affect your computer connection, so it is a good idea to reconnect (i.e. restart) your machine in the morning.
