Most of us enjoy the convenience of our cars. Our goal is to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible. However, for thousands of Angelinos-mainly working class families-relying exclusively on buses and trains to get to work, school, and the grocery store is part of their everyday experience. Public transportation (a.k.a. P.T.) is the most valued and frustrating feature of the LA Term semester. Students realize how much people take for granted the ability to move freely without stress or restraint. Riding P.T. reveals another side of the city, one that is easily forgotten when we lock ourselves inside our cars.
The program staff makes every effort to ease you into the public transportation experience. During Orientation Week, the staff will train you on how to navigate LA‘s imperfect transit system and what safety precautions to take. When it comes to your internship, we strongly encourage you to consider the estimated travel time and distance between your home stay and internship site. Intern supervisors understand that they need to arrange transportation to get students home in case they work past 5:30-6 p.m.
