A recent Reuters article discusses a journal article co-written Brennan Davis, Ph.D., associate professor in Azusa Pacific’s School of Business and Management. The article highlights the results of the study and the surrounding problem of childhood obesity that has been on the rise in America since 1980.
Davis joined with University of California, Irvine faculty member Christopher Carpenter for a study on the proximity of fast food restaurants to schools and it correlation to obesity in youth. Davis was quoted saying, “Students who were exposed to nearby fast food have a higher level of body mass index. They weigh more. They are more likely to be overweight and obese.”
The research, which involved more than 500,000 youth in California, was published in the March 2008 edition of the American Journal of Public Health.
