WHO:
Azusa Pacific University’s Department of Communication Studies welcomes Pauline Cheong, Ph.D., associate professor of communication at Arizona Sate University.
WHAT:
APU hosts the 23rd Annual David C. Bicker Communication Ethics Conference, which showcases faculty and student research, scholarship, and reflective thinking on relevant issues in communication ethics.
“Social media has the potential to reach so many people and, in the world of online communication, users tend to feel they can write things that they would not say to someone face to face, not realizing that words hurt whether they are written or spoken. There is no non-verbal language in the social media, so our ability to understand a person beyond his or her actual words is severely limited. These and other areas fall under the heading of ethical dimensions of the social media,” said Jim Willis, chair and professor, APU Department of Communication Studies.
