Fourth grade students from local AUSD elementary schools and Azusa Pacific University’s Center for Academic Service-Learning and Research
WHAT:
College Headed and Mighty Proud (C.H.A.M.P.) graduation is the culminating event for a semester-long service learning project that partners prospective teachers studying at APU with fourth grade students from the Azusa Unified School District (AUSD).
Approximately 240 fourth graders from Powell Elementary, Lee Elementary, and Mountain View Elementary will graduate. Administrators from AUSD and APU will attend. Additionally, a picnic will be held for all alumni of the C.H.A.M.P. Program.
Family, friends, and members of the Azusa and APU communities will celebrate and support these young minds as they publicly acknowledged their desire to be College Headed and Mighty Proud. The ceremony includes inspiring speeches from Paul Flores, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Liberal Studies, and Alexis Ruiz-Alessi, Azusa Unified’s Assistant Superintendent.
Also, on Saturday, all current and past C.H.A.M.P. graduates are invited to the annual C.H.A.M.P. Alumni Picnic.

C.H.A.M.P. Alumni Picnic: Sat., April 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

About C.H.A.M.P.:
Through the past 18 years of the C.H.A.M.P. Program, APU students encourage local fourth graders to pursue higher education. Founded in 1991, C.H.A.M.P. is a collaborative effort between APU and local elementary schools to empower and excite children about their future dreams and goals of attending college and to be mutually beneficial for APU education majors.
