Azusa, Calif. — Ministry comprises an integral part of the foundations of Azusa Pacific University. In order to help students continue their goals of vocational ministry, APU’s Kern Center for Vocational Ministry (KCVM) awards scholarships to students with goals of being in full-time vocational ministry and are studying either Biblical Studies, Christian Ministries, Theology, or Youth Ministry. This year the seven-person scholarship review board had the challenging task of selecting the eight recipients from 22 highly qualified applicants. This year’s scholars are:

  • Adam Bagherian, Senior, Colorado Springs, Colo. resident, Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries
  • Ernie Johnston, Senior, Lihue, Hawaii resident, Biblical Studies
  • Jonathan Lambert, Junior, Cambria, Calif. resident, Biblical Studies and Youth Ministries
  • Michael Martinez, Senior, Glendora, Calif. resident, Youth Ministries
  • Calvin Rich, Sophomore, Wasilla, Ark. resident, Biblical Studies
  • Zach Robson, Freshman, Highland, Calif. resident, Youth Ministries
  • Mackenzie Smith, Freshman, Phoenix, Ariz. resident, Youth Ministries
  • Andrew Wall, Sophomore, Newbury Park, Calif. resident, Biblical Studies and History

Two students also had their KCVM Scholarship renewed for a second year.

  • Scott Cody, Sophomore, San Jose, Calif. resident, Biblical Studies
  • Roland Lee, Senior, Anaheim, Calif. resident, Biblical Studies

The KCVM assists students who are preparing to be vocational pastors. In addition to financial scholarships the Kern Center staff links interested students with Pastor-Mentors to guide them in their journey to becoming a vocational pastor. Other KCVM services provided to APU students include seminary advising, small-group question and answer sessions with current pastors, church-site internships, ministry readiness assessment, prayer support, and peer community development.
