As December approaches, Azusa Pacific University’s School of Music prepares for their annual concert, “Celebrate Christmas.” An APU tradition spanning more than 25 years, “Celebrate Christmas 2011: Sing, Joy to the World!,” takes place on Fri., Dec. 2 from 7:30—9:30 p.m., and Sun., Dec. 4 from 3—5 p.m. at Lake Avenue Church, 393 N. Lake Avenue, in Pasadena.
“Celebrate Christmas” includes the Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Bel Canto Women's Choir, University Choir, Men's Chorale, Oratorio Choir, Handbell Choir, Chamber Singers, Wind Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, and others. With more than 400 participants, this event represents the School of Music’s largest performance of the year and draws audiences of more than 5,000.
“Celebrate Christmas” is a unique musical experience where individuals gather together to celebrate the birth of Christ and bring into focus the true meaning of the Christmas season. Highlights of the show include favorites such as I Have Seen the Light, the "Hallelujah” from Handel's Messiah, and Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.
“This annual event ushers in the holiday season and showcases the wonderful talent of our students and faculty,” said Robert Brigham, the School of Music’s director of marketing and concert administration. “This is one event that brings together the incredible gifts and talents of the entire School of Music.”
