AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific University is named a 2011—12 Christian College of Distinction. APU is 1 of only 29 Christian colleges in the nation to receive this honor.

“The Colleges of Distinction ranking is one of many indicators that identify Azusa Pacific University as a quality institution of higher education,” said Provost Mark Stanton, Ph.D., ABPP. “This recognition affirms our commitment to excellence in scholarship and the teaching-learning relationship that is so important to the development of students who will make a difference in our world.”

The Colleges of Distinction guide book provides students, counselors, and parents with information on what "really matters" when selecting a college. Colleges of Distinction honors schools that excel in four key areas of educational quality: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes.

On its website, Colleges of Distinction APU's success in these four categories is profiled, including the following highlights:

Engaged students: APU students experience hands-on learning in the local community and around the world. Students complete more than 30 hours of service learning hours each year.

Great teaching: With a 15:1 student-to-faculty ratio, APU students benefit from small class sizes and more personal interaction with faculty members. The university offers a wide variety of academic disciplines and research opportunities.

Vibrant community: APU is not only committed to educating its students, but also to meeting the needs of the surrounding community of Azusa by working with the city to establish The Neighborhood Wellness Center and the Child and Family Development Center.
