Approximately 600 students will graduate from Azusa Pacific University on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the university’s summer commencement ceremonies. The ceremonies feature 169 bachelor’s, 308 master’s, 100 adult and profession studies, and 29 doctoral degree recipients.
- Bachelor’s degree ceremony at 1 p.m.
- Doctoral, master’s, and professional studies degree ceremony at 4 p.m.
- Ceremonies take place in APU’s Felix Events Center, located on West Campus, at 701 E. Foothill Blvd., in Azusa.
The speaker for both ceremonies is John Dix, D.Min., lead pastor of Grace Church of Glendora, where he has served in full-time ministry for 14 years. Dix grew up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he discovered early in life what it meant to place God First in all circumstances. Dix holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Talbot School of Theology. He also conducted a postgraduate fellowship in Jerusalem, Israel.
During the undergraduate ceremony, the university will present an honorary Doctorate of Humanities to lifetime Azusa resident Inez Gutierrez. Often referred to as “Mrs. Azusa,” Gutierrez works to better the city through her extensive community service efforts, including 31 years on the Azusa Unified School Board, inspiring the establishment of the Neighborhood Wellness Center, and serving as an active member of the Canyon City Foundation and St. Frances of Rome Church.
