Azusa Unified School District and Azusa Pacific University are creating an additional pathway to college for students who attend Azusa and Gladstone high schools. This agreement provides Azusa students who meet admissions requirements with guaranteed admittance to APU, a $10,000 renewable scholarship, application fee waiver, and support with the application process.

Unique to APU’s partnership with Azusa Unified, the $10,000 scholarship can be combined with the $5,000 renewable Nancy Moore/Celebrate Azusa Citizen Scholarship for Azusa and Gladstone high school graduates and the Celebrate Azusa/Cynthia Cervantes McGuire Scholarship for transfer students from Azusa who also attended Citrus College. APU students who receive these awards join the Azusa Scholars Program. Since 2000 this leadership program has graduated more than 50 APU students from Azusa. On average, APU has 28 Azusa Scholars enrolled, which amounts to $140,000 annually committed to the advancement of Azusa’s most qualified students.

“Because of our valuable existing partnerships with Azusa Pacific, and its proximity and prominence in our community, many of our students already have a special affinity for APU,” said Superintendent Linda Kaminski, Ed.D.“This exciting partnership to offer a guaranteed opportunity to attend an outstanding university right here at home gives our students yet another reason to strive for excellence.”

The agreement begins fall 2017 and also includes this year’s graduates who met the program’s academic requirements. Incoming high school freshmen who successfully follow the academic pathway all four years will be eligible. In addition, current sophomores and juniors, who meet the requirements, may pursue this educational option.

“Azusa Pacific University is grateful to call the City of Azusa home,” said President Jon. R. Wallace, DBA. “We seek to serve our vibrant community and make a positive impact, and this partnership further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to offer Azusa students and their families a college education that is affordable and accessible.”
