Student Exhibit Explores World of Fantasy
March 12, 2007
AZUSA, Calif. –
Carpentaria, Calif. resident and Azusa Pacific University studio art major Jennifer Gates hosts a reception for her art show, An Introduction to Crossworld, on March 20, from 6-9 p.m. The exhibit showcases digitally colored and printed artwork including 8 large pieces and 16 smaller pieces.
Gates’ inspiration comes from her love of stories. “I love fantasy stories and the people in them. I want my art to portray characters so that others can understand them as I do, learn their personalities, what they look like, hope for, and what troubles they have to deal with.” Gates’ hopes to be a comic book colorist in the future and her artwork has been tailored to fit the comic book style. “I hope that my art may someday lead to a complete book or comic,” said Gates.
Her inspiration for the show derived from a story world she created with friends two years ago. The story soon developed into a fictional world incorporating their favorite elements of fantasy and science fiction with swords, magic, and futuristic technology. Today the story has developed into an elaborate art show.
Gates’ show runs from March 19-30 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. in the Darling Hall Library, located on APU’s West Campus at 701 E. Foothill Blvd.
