History Professor Receives Alice V. Watkins Imago Dei Ethos Award

September 14, 2007

AZUSA, Calif. –

Azusa, Calif. resident Thomas Andrews, Ph.D., Azusa Pacific University professor of history, received the Alice V. Watkins Imago Dei Ethos Award in August 2007. Named for the former dean in the School of Education, the $2,000 award recognized Andrews' contributions in advancing diversity-related scholarship this past academic year.

"Dr. Andrews recognized the critical gaps in the library collections of providing access to American ethnic authors. During 2006-07, Dr. Andrews collected important authors and titles from four ethnic groups: African America, Asian American, Native American, and Latina/Latino writers, several of whom are Pulitzer Prize winners," said Pam Christian, Ph.D., assistant provost. "He believes that adding these authors and their books to the library 'complements, challenges, and enriches' students' learning at APU.”

Andrews holds a bachelor's degree in History from Pasadena College. He received a master's and Ph.D. in American History, both from the University of Southern California.
