WHAT:
Following the success of APU’s first faculty author book signing last fall, the university presents four new faculty authors who will share and discuss their books at the Glendora Barnes & Noble on April 10. The event includes a reception, during which each author will present their book, followed by a meet and greet and time for signing.
From April 9-13, a percentage of every purchase benefits APU. Bring a voucher, buy any book, and support the university. Show the voucher or tell the cashier you want to support APU. Gift cards and membership purchases excluded.

AUTHORS:
Dennis Okholm, Ph.D., Costa Mesa, Calif. resident and professor of theology and philosophy will share his book Monk Habits for Everyday People: Benedictine Spirituality for Protestants. Based on his experiences with Benedictine monks, Okholm introduces the reader to the monks’ history, customs, and values, such as listening, humility, balance, obedience, hospitality, and stability. In a culture of Christian kitch and consumer-oriented spirituality, Okholm brings some of the Benedictines’ concepts and practice to those who yearn for a deep and slowly nurtured spiritual life.
Reflections on Equity, Diversity, and Schooling, written by Azusa, Calif. resident Maria Pacino, Ed.D., chair of the Department of Advanced Studies in Education and professor of education, gives readers an intimate glimpse into diversity, equity, and social justice from a blend of narrative and theoretical perspectives. Filled with engaging stories and practical applications, each chapter enlightens and inspires readers to act on issues of prejudice, racism, classism, sexism, and other social inequities in relationship to schools and schooling.
Three Strikes Law, written by Glendora, Calif. resident Jennifer E. Walsh, Ph.D., associate professor of political science at APU, provides a clear, comprehensive overview of the controversial Three Strikes law movement. Walsh analyzes the movement’s historical development, provides detail about various Three Strikes statues adopted across the nation, and offers an in-depth examination of its rationale and consequences, helping readers understand on the most controversial criminal justice developments of our time.
Ontario, Calif. resident Jim Willis, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Communication Studies at APU, is author of The Media Effect: How the News Influences Politics and Government. How truthful is the news media’s version of reality? To what extent is government policy decided on the basis of this mediated reality and public reaction to it? Willis examines these questions as he explore the role of the traditional and nontraditional news media’s influence on decision making at the high levels of American government.
