APU Hosts Red Cross Blood Drive
September 22, 2005
AZUSA, Calif. –
WHO:
The American Red Cross and Azusa Pacific University
WHAT:
APU hosts a blood drive for the American Red Cross.
WHERE:
APU's Trinity Hall Lounge on East Campus
901 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa
WHEN:
Tues., Oct. 4, and Wed., Oct. 5, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
WHY:
"Participating in a blood drive is something we can do if we can't physically go and help out with hurricane relief in the Gulf Coast," said Billie Caldwell, director of APU's Student Health Center. "We can still help those around us who are in need."
In Southern California, only three percent of eligible individuals donate blood, and the greatest need is among Latinos, African Americans, Asians, and other persons of color.
FACTS:
- Those interested in donating blood must make an appointment through www.givelife.org.
- The American Red Cross Blood Services began as a war relief effort to provide life-saving blood for soldiers during World War II. Today, the American Red Cross collects and distributes half the nation's blood supply. Find out about blood donation requirements and other local blood donation sites at www.givelife.org.
