APU's School of Music Distinguished Artist Series Features World-Class Musicians

Azusa Pacific University's School of Music and guest musicians
WHAT:
APU's Distinguished Artist Series welcomes solo pianist Rebecca Penneys, professor of piano at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y., in a performance including works by classic composers, including Chopin, Ravel, Turina, Bach, Kodaly, and Schubert. Admission is $5 per person.

WHY:
The Distinguished Artist Series, sponsored by APU's School of Music, brings in guest musicians to expand and enrich both the students' and community's view of the musical arts.
FACTS:
- Penneys debuted with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at age 11, and at age 17 won the Special Critics' Prize at the Seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, and later the top prize in the Second Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in Spain. She studied with distinguished muscians Artur Rubinstein, Gyorgy Sebok, Aube Tzerki, Rosina Lhevinne, Gregor Piatigorsky, and Janos Starker.
- In 1974 Penneys founded the two-time Naumberg award-wining New Arts Trio. She also served as guest editor of a special issue of Seminars in Neurology on music and medicine. Her article "Motion and Emotion" appeared in the 1992 issue of Clavier and in 1994 she co-authored The Fundamentals of Flow in Learning Music.
