Multi-Ethnic Student Alliance (MESA)

2007-2008 Co-Leaders: Melody Porter, Shane Cullen, Jessica Balwigaire
On-campus extension: 3720

The Multi-Ethnic Student Alliance (MESA) is a student-led organization advised by the MEP staff. MESA’s mission is to “embody Christian values by promoting sensitivity and awareness, while welcoming and celebrating cultural diversity.” MESA seeks to be a safe place where students can challenge themselves, build friendships, share each other’s culture, and learn to identify with one another.

Working with other clubs and organizations, MESA strives to create an environment at APU in which students can appreciate their differences and embrace their similarities. In addition to regular meetings and social activities, MESA has sponsored events like Gospel Sing, multicultural fashion show, and progressive dinner. MESA invites participation and involvement from students of all ethnic backgrounds.

Additional Organizations within MEP:
Black Student Awareness (BSA)
A Mixed Intercultural Group of Students (AMIGOS)
Pacific Islanders Organization (PIO)
Asian Pacific American Student Organization (APASO)

Night in L.A.

MESA sponsored a progressive dinner in the city of Los Angeles to gather students together over a meal representing several different ethnic restaurants. Managers and restaurant owners took the time to describe menu items, why they were important to the particular country or culture, how they were prepared, and when they were most often eaten.

Two students enjoy the environment at one of the restaurants.
Tasting some new food and obviously enjoying it!
Sky's Taco's was one of the stops and also one of the favorites.
