Profile
Robert Sage is an experienced pianist and harpsichordist, serving as soloist, chamber musician, conductor, coach, accompanist, adjudicator, clinician, and master class instructor. Beyond these positions, Sage writes and records music throughout Europe and the United States. Sage received his doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California (USC) under the tutelage of Lillian Steuber, and also studied with Harry Datyner of the Geneva (Switzerland) Conservatory.

For more than 20 years, Sage has taught at APU. He teaches private piano lessons and courses in Music History and Literature. He has a remarkable classical repertoire and has given recitals composed entirely from audience requests.

In addition to Sage's experience as a pianist, he has been the harpsichordist for a large number of Handel's Messiah and Vivaldi's Gloria performances, with such soloists as Jerome Hines and Robert Hale. Other performances have included concerts at the Crystal Cathedral (California); live performances from Barnsdall Park (Los Angeles) on KFAC (FM radio); western United States premiere performance of Debussy's Fantasie (a three movement concerto) for piano and orchestra with the Conejo Symphony; the non-European premiere performance of a large, unpublished Mendelssohn sonata, and serves as the Director of Music for Lyric Opera of Los Angeles (2002-present).
