Sharon Cathey teaches general music, choir, and instrumental music to more than 700 elementary students each week in area public schools. This provides a rich resource of experiences that she uses to help the students in her APU course Music in the Elementary Schools.
“Teaching music to the youngest of students is a privilege, not a chore, for classroom teachers, or a stepping-stone for music teachers to promote to higher grade levels. We have the opportunity to be perhaps the first to promote a lifelong love of the arts to our students.”
Mrs. Cathey’s experiences include teaching private piano and flute lessons, accompanying on the piano for a variety of church and community choirs, and managing the Civic Youth Orchestra in San Diego, California.
