Philosophy
At APU, musical scholarship surpasses demonstrated talent to encompass a balance of academic achievement, advanced skills, and spiritual maturity. Because all three aspects comprise the well-rounded musician, the School of Music encourages comprehensive growth. While demanding the highest standards of professionalism, the faculty mentor individuals, inspiring them to reach deeper and further than they imagined.
For the Master of Music Education candidate, that inspiration translates into innovative teaching experiences that transform music education. Music teachers with a foundation that includes theory, the latest technology, and a heightened sense of artistry can better communicate the subtle nuances of music to novice musicians.

"Although I was also accepted at USC's School of Music, I chose Azusa Pacific University because it offers something unique. From the first moment I made contact with Azusa Pacific, I felt valued. Somehow I knew that going to school here would result in more than a degree; it would change my life. I was right. My professors are Christians with vast experience in the public school system and provide both spiritual and practical guidance for music educators in today's schools. They taught me to live my life openly before my students, talk about choices without preaching, and model a life lived in hope. The most important thing I have learned at APU is that God is present in all I do as a musician and a teacher." |
