The Night of Champions Leadership Team has selected this year’s theme to be “Be Today’s Champion” based on 1 Samuel 16:7: “But the LORD said to Samuel, ’Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.’ The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
Who are today’s champions?
Society and the media have placed a high value on those with great achievements and accolades–the person with the most wins, the most money, and the biggest ego. What most people fail to realize is that ALL of these things disappear with time and do not reflect what God desires for us and our hearts.
What is a champion for Christ?
Regardless of “what” you have accomplished or “who” you have become, a true champion for Christ is one who puts faith and trust in God’s saving grace, one who perseveres under both hardship and recognition, giving the honor and glory to God.
How can you become a champion for Christ today?
Challenge yourself to answer these questions. Bring your friends to an event that reflects on these issues that society and the media have passed on to our generation. You and your friends will benefit from shared experiences as you listen to keynote speakers discuss the struggles and triumphs they have on a daily basis. Come and be encouraged and challenged to persevere and focus on what God desires most: your heart.
