Katherine Tong brings more than 25 years of experience as a nurse and board certified family nurse practitioner. In 2006, she taught Community Health and Case Management as adjunct faculty at APU. She also taught at a state university for the last six years, teaching courses and labs in health assessment, and concepts using evidence-based practices. She keeps her skills current by seeing pediatric and women’s health patients. Tong strives to pass her experiences to the students to enhance their learning in class.

Tong's dissertation focused on Health Promotion and Health Literacy among Samoans. In February 2013, she co-developed and co-led two sessions of the training, “Health Literacy” conducted for the Orange County Health Care Agency on behalf of the California-Nevada Public Health Training Center. Her future research will continue to focus on health literacy and health promotion behaviors in vulnerable populations.
