Research and Training

The Pediatric Neurodevelopment Institute serves as a resource for ongoing interdisciplinary research, training, and education for faculty and doctoral students in the schools of Behavioral and Applied Sciences, Education, Nursing and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Azusa Pacific University. The Institute provides a means for research and practice that allows us to share our knowledge and expertise with parents and other caregivers, school personnel, and the professional community.

Ongoing research projects at the Pediatric Neurodevelopment Institute:

  • Understanding neurodevelopmental functioning in children with attention and behavior problems
  • Understanding neurodevelopmental functioning in children with social problems
  • Exploring the impact of sensory processing upon children’s development and behavior
  • Assessing the effectiveness of interventions for children with severe behavior problems
  • Developing school based interventions for children with severe behavior problems
  • Issues facing gifted children of color (including those who are bilingual)
  • The social and emotional functioning of gifted children (including those who are both gifted and learning disabled)

Training programs at the Pediatric Neurodevelopment Institute are dedicated to training graduate level practitioners in state-of-the-art empirically supported practices for helping children and their families. Particular emphasis is placed upon working across disciplines to provide the best services for each individual child and family.
