Description

The Department of Biology and Chemistry is composed of nine full-time biologists, three full-time chemists, a full-time biochemist and additional adjunct faculty. It is supported by a staff of five full-time employees. There are over 200 students seeking degrees in four majors: Applied Health, Biology, Biochemistry, and Chemistry. Position subject to final funding.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture and lab courses within candidate’s specialty, plus lower division lecture and/or lab courses for majors or non-majors
  • Conduct research involving undergraduate students.
  • Participate in mentoring and academic advising of undergraduate students.
  • Participate in department and university affairs.

Level

Assistant or Associate Professor

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in a biological science
  • A commitment to teaching excellence in an undergraduate, liberal arts program
  • Knowledge of the field and a willingness to conduct research in an undergraduate setting
  • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University (Faculty members are required to sign a “Statement of Faith,” available at http://www.apu.edu/about/believe and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook.)

Experience

  • Evidence of teaching excellence desired
  • Extramural funding for research, facilities, or equipment desirable
  • Desire to mentor individual students in their course work, research, and personal lives
