Description

The Department of Special Education is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual for the position, which includes teaching in the Special Education Credential Program, Level I or Professional Clear, plus the MA Programs. The Department’s credential programs are accredited by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and by the National Council for Accrediting Teacher Education (NCATE). Azusa Pacific University’s credential programs are considered by site/district administrators to prepare some of the finest beginning teachers in Southern California, and the number of credentials granted to program completers ranks the department in the top three of private universities with Teacher Education Programs.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching credential courses for the Special Education department, and fieldwork supervision in multicultural settings. Advising Special Education Credential candidates, participating in scholarly and service activities, serving on department and university committees, and collaborating with public and private schools will be required.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to Christian Education and a Christian World View
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field (ABD will be considered)
  • Successful experience teaching a range of Special Education courses at the graduate level
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience credentialed in the Special Education field, K-12
  • Higher Education teaching experience preferred
  • Willingness to travel to Regional Center sites
  • Strong research interests and demonstrated scholarship
  • Familiarity with CTC and with Special Education course content
  • Desire to collaborate successfully with colleagues and contribute to Special Education Department team
  • National Board Certification or California clear Mild to Moderate teaching credential

Experience

  • Experience in mentoring/supervision of candidates in multi-cultural settings
  • Experience with educational technology (both personal and in K-12 classrooms) required
  • Experience with English-language Learners, experience in diversity settings, or bilingual background desirable
  • Experience working with students with various exceptionalities at elementary and secondary level

Workload

This position is an 11-month contract
