Litzy Z. Ruiz currently serves as the Director of the Moderate to Severe Disabilities Program and Assistant Professor of Special Education in the School of Education at Azusa Pacific University. Mrs. Ruiz co-authored the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved Moderate to Severe Disabilities Credential Program. Additionally, she developed the online curricula for the program. Before coming to Azusa Pacific University, Mrs. Ruiz served as an educational specialist to students with moderate to severe disabilities, district-wide inclusion specialist, Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) support provider and special education teacher trainer for the Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders (ASRD) programs at Pomona Unified School District. Mrs. Ruiz’ current research interests include collaboration, the inclusion of students with significant disabilities in the general education setting, the dissemination of evidence-based practices for students with significant disabilities and students with Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders, and the integration of Disabilities Studies in teacher preparation programs. By aligning her instructional practices with the School of Education’s mission, Mrs. Ruiz’ professional goals are directly linked to practices that better prepare teacher candidates who are ethical, responsive and scholarly informed professionals, committed to issues of equity and access for all students.
