Southern California Wildfires: Resources for Students, Faculty, and Staff October 24, 2007
We recognize that the devastation being caused by the multiple fires throughout Southern California has a significant impact on our community. Currently, our regional centers in Murrieta and San Diego have canceled scheduled classes for the remainder of the week, though neither have been directly threatened. The Murrieta Regional Center remains open for office hours. Our prayers go out to our community members from all the areas affected by the fires. We will continue to monitor the fires closely, and updates regarding regional centers and other campus information will be posted at www.apu.edu/response/. The Azusa campus has not been directly impacted by the fires. However, we recognize that many in our community may live in, or have family and friends in affected areas. The following resources are available to you, and we have staff ready to support those in need. Students: • Students who may need to miss class or work due to fire-related issues should contact their professors and employers. • Athletes should check in with their coaches for any possible change to events due to air quality. Additional resources: • Office of the Campus Pastors, Chris Adams, (626) 815-3855 • University Counseling Center (626) 815-2109 • Common Reactions to a Disaster (PDF)* • Student Health Center (626) 815-2100 • Student Financial Services: Undergraduate (626) 812-3009; Graduate (626) 815-4570; CAPS (626) 815-5300 • Tonight, the campus pastors will be available for support and prayer at a prayer service for those impacted by the fires. The service will take place in the Los Angeles Pacific College (LAPC) Board Room, near the East Campus trolley stop, at 7:30 p.m. Faculty and Staff: • Please let your chairs, deans, or directors know of any fire-related impact to your class or work schedule. We ask that you show support and consideration to those students who may be impacted as well, and please redirect them to the resources listed above. The following resources are available for faculty and staff: • Office of Human Resources (626) 815-4526 • Office of the Provost (626) 812-3087 • Common Reactions to a Disaster (PDF)* The university’s website, www.apu.edu, will continue to serve as the primary source of information for campus community members regarding the fires. Thank you for offering grace, care, and consideration regarding these matters. *The downloadable version of this document is provided in Portable Document Format (PDF).
