Morris Fire - Smoke Advisory August 26, 2009 As a result of the Morris Fire burning in the Angeles National Forest, the South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a health advisory for the San Gabriel and San Bernardino valleys. According to the advisory, “Everyone should avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion; people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children should remain indoors. Keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter. Run your air conditioner if you have one. Keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside.” For the APU campus community: We recognize this impacts our university community and ask for you to take precautions to protect your health and the health of your employees and students. Supervisors, please evaluate all outdoor activity that employees and students may be engaged in and reschedule as necessary. If anyone feels they are having problems breathing and cannot be productive, contact your supervisor and with the supervisor's approval use sick time to take the day off. For more tips on avoiding health impacts from smoke, visit Athletics: Due to the smoke advisory, today's football practice has been moved to the University of La Verne. Also, Thursday's Cougar Classic soccer games are switching sites: the men's games will take place at Biola University, and the women's games at California Baptist University.
